Jeanne Barrett - Piano Technician

I have enjoyed a progressive path leading to my profession as a piano technician!
I learned to play the piano as a child and like many, put it aside as I grew older. Fortunately, it stayed with me and I returned
to it as an adult. In the meantime, I majored in Mechanical Engineering and Materials and worked in the automotive field for 32 years. I was able to travel to many countries throughout my career and now have a musical instrument collection! Seeking new opportunities, I retired from Automotive Engineering and entered musical instrument engineering, so to speak! I have always been drawn to music and developed an appreciation for instruments, the craftsmanship, how they are made and how they work. The piano technician profession seemed perfect for me! The piano is my own focused engineering project!
In addition to learning the craft of a piano technician from a seasoned veteran, I also attend the annual Piano Technicians Guild conferences to continue to learn and apply piano tuning and piano repair skills. Pianos should be played! They need to be played! Playing the piano not only creates joy, but playing the piano helps to keep all the wood, strings, hammer, and felt working together smoothly.
